The thing is, there's a definite correlation between when newer cuts appear and when he's upset. It's hard to catch, at first, because he wears his sleeves long so often and they hitch up or are pushed up only rarely. But Lorraine has the eye for that sort of thing.
And Lorraine will surely notice the new bandage across the back of his left wrist when he hands her the whisk, two days after a harsh message comes from his stepmother and father.
